Creating Local Yum in Oracle Linux 6.3

Manual installation of Oracle required Packages is always frustrating one while installing Oracle Database in a Linux Box. Oracle Linux came up with a package named oracle-validated-preinstall to manage all installation prerequisites easily. To take advantage of it, you can configure local yum using those following steps.

First of all, create a empty directory and copy all packages from CD or ISO Image.

cd /
mkdir /package
cp /media/ /* /package/

Install createrepo package

rpm -ivh createrepo-0.9.8-5.el6.noarch.rpm

Browse local Package Directory, user createrepo . command to create local yum repository.

cd /package/
createrepo .

Finally change your repository entry for local one and make sure you have identified the baseurl to correct package directory.

cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
cp *.repo *.repo.bak
vi *.repo
[local]
name=Oracle Linux 6.3 x86_64
baseurl=file:///package
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY
gpgcheck=1
enabled=1

Now, you get your local yum configured to carry on.
